If you’re craving the buttery, flaky goodness of a croissant but need a gluten-free option, you’re in for a treat! Today, I’m sharing a recipe that’s not only inventive and delicious but also became a viral trend on TikTok: Crispy Rice Paper Croissants. This creative twist on the classic French pastry has taken social media by storm, and for good reason—it’s made without gluten (and without mess) but still packed with all the delightful flavors and textures we love.
Now, let’s be honest: these rice paper croissants aren’t exactly like traditional croissants. You won’t get the same buttery layers, but what they lack in authenticity, they make up for in versatility and taste. They’re light, crisp, and can be customized in so many ways to create the perfect little treat for breakfast or any time of day.
The magic of this recipe lies in rice paper, a versatile ingredient that, when layered and baked, achieves a satisfyingly crunchy texture. Whether you enjoy them plain, dusted with sugar, or filled with your favorite spread, these croissants offer endless possibilities for personalization. Make sure to buy gluten-free certified rice paper (like these one) if you are baking the croissants for a coeliac person.
What I love most about these rice paper croissants is how easy they are to make. There’s no need for the time-consuming process of laminating dough or worrying about rising times. Instead, you can whip up a batch of these crispy delights in no time, enjoying the same comforting taste with a fraction of the effort. If you have an air fryer, it’s the perfect last minute snack.
So, grab your rice paper, and let’s bake up some crispy, golden goodness that everyone can enjoy! Whether you’re serving them for breakfast, as a snack, or even as a unique appetizer, these rice paper croissants are sure to impress.
Curios to see other viral trend on TikTok that happen to be gluten-free?
In early 2024, the red lentils bread had taken over the social media videos of food. It’s a loaf bread made only red lentils and few other pantry ingredients. It’s both gluten-free and vegan, but high in protein too! See here my recipe for it!
Amazing treats, especially for those of us that haven’t been able to eat a croissant in decades!! These were super simple and delicious. As the other commenter noted I had to use a bit more milk in my batter in order for it to make the amount listed. I subbed in oat milk and miyoko’s dairy-free butter and they were delicious! Definitely worth experimenting with sweet and savory fillings! Thanks for the recipe!
My newfound breakfast treat. I saw the concept on TikTok and looked up a recipe and this one was well rated.
I wish I could only take away a half star because it is not flaky like a croissant and the recipe proportions didn’t cover 4 servings for me.
Other than that, this is a winner winner chicken dinner!!! Crunchy on the outside was nice. Chewy on the inside was different with the plain ones but I made a chocolate filled one and a cheese filled one. The cheese one really hot the spot. The chocolate one was life!
I will add a 1/2 Tb more of milk and 1/2 Tb flavored olive oil.
I’ll also fold the stuffed ones like an eggroll or rectangular pocket.
This recipe is fantastic.
I found it a great option for breakfast, too! I still have to try these with cheese but sounds like a good idea!
